OK, so for the past few weeks, I've had to hit the main power switch on the back of my psu, let it drain, then turn it back on to turn my computer on.
A few days ago, I tried like 5 times before it would boot. Fans would spin up, opticals would spin up, hard drive LEDs came on, but no power or joy to my USB mouse or keyboard, and the monitors wouldn't light up, so I didn't even see a bios or anything.
Tonight, I think I finally killed it, I am having a hard time even getting the power button to respond to my gentle touch, or even when I basically threaten to finger rape the bitch, no love
So fuck it, I'm 99% sure it's PSU (if not, it's MOBO or cPU???) so I ordered a PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750 Quad. Anand Tech review here
If it ISN"T, I'm sure this thread will get quite long w/ the Phenom for keeping the market fresh vs Q6600 debate as to what to do (cause if I replace a mobo, I'm updating the CPU too, just replacing the mobo would be cheaper, but what kind of nerd would I be if I didn't jump at any upgrade opportunity!)

Does indeed sound like the PSU is the primary suspect. You might want to do a quick bench test on your old PSU after you've pulled it from your rig. Google for the paperclip test, I'm too lazy to find it myself at the moment.
The deal is you take a paperclip, cut it and bend it into a tight "U", and put it into two specific pins of your main power connector out of your PSU. If it's working and plugged into 120 VAC, that will cause it to fire up on the bench without being plugged into your mobo. You can use a DVM to check the voltages, see the PSU fan spin, etc. Do NOT place any PSU cables or the used paperclip into any body cavities or orifices before, during, or after this test.
Doesn't hurt to do the same test on your PCP&C when it arrives, before slapping it into your case.
That PCP&C unit is very nice, have one in my main rig. Very happy with it.
Damn, AMD is practically giving away the Phenoms. Too bad Newegg already has too much of my money - over $2,700 in 2007.

My antec 500 crapped out on me a year ago and i started using this Aerocool 550i have lying around. Anyway the Aerocool started doing that same shit, hit power fans fire up , pump starts then boom loss of power. Turn off switch on psu , let drain and it would usually start back up, sometimes it would take me 4-5 tries like you said b4 it would stay powered up. After my last OS reinstall it hasnt done it since....

You might check your box of pc goodies for a psu test jumper, paper clip sounds scary slug . Every PSU ive ever bought came with one, maybe im just lucky
